Completion of certification and launch of battery production already this year

February 18, 2019

The company Magna Energy Storage finished the construction of a huge hall near Havířov, where the production of battery systems for energy storage will be launched this autumn. It was announced by the investor and shareholder of the company HE3DA, Radomír Prus, in his interview for the E15 daily newspaper.

Billion-crown investments

The new battery factory is named Magna Energy Storage (MES) and is located in Horní Suchá near Havířov. Batteries according to the patent of HE3DA will be produced there.  It is one of the largest battery factories in Europe.

The investment worth 1.3 billion crowns is due to be completed by the autumn when the production should start.  The entire battery production will be fully robotic. The construction is realized thanks to private investments worth billions of crowns only from private sources, without any state subsidies and support. Those Czech investors that are united in the Battery Unite fund invest in the MES project.

In the first stage, the annual capacity for the production of batteries will be up to 170 megawatt hours. In the future, it should be 1.2 gigawatt hours, which would require the expansion of the operation in the amount about 5.6 billion crowns.

In the autumn, the first production technologies were installed in Horní Suchá. “The new factory will allow fully automated production, which can be continuously changed according to the customers´ requirements. The batteries are very safe, almost indestructible and can be easily connected into large energy banks; they will open a new stage for the complex use of renewable resources,” says Prus.

Batteries available on the market only in 2020

According to the main investor, Radomír Prus, the majority owner of MES, the first batteries could be on the market at the end of the year, but it is purely theoretical. “We already know that our investors will sell out our stocks during the first year, which are the companies that have invested in us partly because they need the batteries for their own purposes”, says Prus about the plans.

“But then we will focus on the large storage market, where we expect the interest of hospitals, factories and all companies that can replace their generators with our batteries to stabilize their network,” adds Prus.

The battery, patented by the company HE3DA, can serve as an energy bank for storing a large amount of energy at a very low cost but with a high level of security. The two basic types of batteries will serve either as an energy bank for storing a large amount of energy at the lowest possible price, or they will be used in electric cars or in the power industry as a quickly available energy source.

Development and certification

In June 2018, the company HE3DA announced that it had begun the certification process. In this connection, the company contacted the independent German TÜV Testing Centre. The first certification results should be known by the end of March this year.

The company HE3DA has invested more than 250 million crowns in the development of its technology. According to the company’s announcement, the batteries have already been tested at the accredited testing laboratory ČVUT, which, according to Prus, has confirmed that it meets the expected parameters.

In November 2018, the first HE3DA batteries were installed as a backup source for extreme conditions at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, the USA. The company participates in the project together with the local Nevada University.

“For our company, the project is a great challenge due to extreme conditions in the desert, the high temperatures and also due to the diversified energy inputs into the battery storage,” says Dr. Jan Procházka, the founder of the company.
